Defying Norms, Disobeying Regulations. To Dance, to Live, to Celebrate.

Experience two great genres of dance: Hip Hop and Oriental (belly) Dance, combined in a unique dance / theatre presentation.

“The Dance Within” tells an age-old story of the freedom to express oneself. An evil dictator with his henchmen is always present to stop any dance-related activities no matter how much the dancers protest. They then hold an underground movement dance party, to test and show their talents to each other, mixing and fusing their moves to achieve the same goal: to be able to express themselves through dance with full freedom yet with a healthy dose of responsibility.

Unfortunately, the omnipresent evil dictator knows about this party. So he comes to the festival, he sees the dances, and he conquers. But what does he conquer? Does he capture all dancers and make them swear never to dance again or does he, being unable to resist the passion of the dance within, eventually join the celebration? (Hint: the story has a happy ending.)

A feast for the eyes as well as for the heart, “The Dance Within” showcases the talents of DanceWave Center Jakarta's dancers, some are honed by years of both professional teaching and dancing experiences, some amateur dancers, all of them with the same fiery infatuation to dance, through Hip Hop or the Oriental Dance. “The Dance Within” delivers the message that the chains of the soul will eventually be broken. In the end, every human will try to come out of his or her shackles.
