Über Luxury Sports Sedans for 2009

Aston Martin Rapide
James Bond’s new venture into fatherhood would call for the most glamourous and beautiful carmaker in the world to create a four door ultra sleek saloon with the looks to kill.

Maserati Quattroporte S
With the resurrection of the Italian luxury sports car maker, Maserati continues with a sportier version that now comes with an uprated 4.7 V8 engine.

BMW 7-Series
Removing the mad lines of the previous generation has made BMW’s flagship sedan look tame and bordering on dull. Nonetheless, it will be a driver’s car.

Porsche Panamera
Based on the SUV Cayenne’s platform to create Porsche’s first foray into a luxury 5-door hatch saloon. Styling remains unmistakably Porsche and will be tagged as a “sports coupe”.

Editor's Rant: Rent and Bully

A car purchase would widely be considered as one’s second largest expenditure. In general, most would treat his or her own car with love and respect; hence most cars are seldom pushed to the limits in terms of handling and performance. Perhaps the only time when drivers abuse and push a car’s reliability and road holding abilities would be on a rental car during a holiday trip. Several years ago, I rented a Toyota Rav4 for a road trip to explore the Great Ocean Route in Australia. The punishing roads along the coast of Victoria demonstrates how awful the Japanese SUV was to drive as I watch my mate's Holden Astra licking each turn and corner with poise. No prizes for guessing who had a better driving experience. Perhaps the best test drive for anyone is to head down to a car rental company and have a REAL go?
