Sleek coupe-hatches
Renault Megane III coupe
One of the few indications of the return of style-centric
Renault is the new Megane III, especially with the ultra sleek
three door hatch. Also the high perceived quality interior
has raised the bar for cars of this class.

Opel Astra 3-door
The Opel Astra opened the floodgates for 3 door
hatchbacks to double as sleek coupes back in 2004. It set the tone
with the angled hatch to create the "coupe" looks while giving
little away in terms of practicality.

Volkswagen Scirocco
Mostly mechanically the same as our featured car
of the week, the Audi A3. The Volkswagen Scirocco will be a huge
runaway hit in the showrooms as this is probably all the car will
ever need.

Other 3-door premium
hatchbacks |

Volvo C30 ($136,000)
You would have spotted the Volvo
C30 in Twilight as the ride of heartrob Robert Pattinson, who leads
a fab'old'bulous lifestyle. Enuff said.

Alfa Romeo 147 ($108,000)
Getting long in the tooth, the Alfa
Romeo 147 was launched back in 2000. Now comes with stylish bodykit
with Ti spec, but should haggle hard.

|

Mercedes Benz CLC 180K ($126,888)
Surprisingly
a good drive despite utilising previous generation C-Class mechanics.
Approach the option list with caution though.

BMW 130i ($149,800) Huge
driving appeal and stunning performance from the 3.0 inline-6 cylinder
engine is ruined by Chris Bangle's ill-proportioned
styling.

Ahead of others: Audi A2
With a body and chassis made with aluminium, the
sub-1000 kg Audi A2 promises to deliver 33.3km/l with a 1.2 litre
pertrol engine. These were the headline grabbing details from the
1997 Audi concept A2. Shockingly, in 2000, Audi went ahead with launching
the radcial A2, proving that a small sized aluminium car was "business
case" possible. However, a high price tag and unusual looks meant
only 176,000 Audi A2 were sold over 5 years. The A2's
hyper efficient aerodynamic profile is being adopted by Toyota Prius
and the 2010 Honda Insight. Clearly, the Audi A2 was the
first "green" premium hatchback. Were it to be launched today, it
will be selling like "hotcakes".
