Audi Allroads

A6 Allroad Quattro 2.7T (2000)
The very first Allroad from Audi; raised ride height, plenty of butch cladding around all the bumpers and doors and a pair of chrome roof rails. This follows closely a segment started by the Volvo XC70 and Subaru Outback. Audi stands out among the competition with a first rate cabin and strong brand image. Failed to do well in America; as consumers found it too middle of the road as it lacks the utilities of a full-sized SUV

A6 Allroad Quattro (2006)
The second generation of the A6 Allroad was targeted mainly for European markets, where the successful large SUV, Q7 was deemed too large. Comes with better resolved on-road handling and ride. Will never be sold in Singapore.

Audi A4 Allroad (2009)
Kudos to Audi for the ability to find the space between the A4 Avant and Q5 SUV to create the A4 Allroad. Apparently only 2% of SUV owners ever venture off tarmac according to research done by Audi. Personally, we think it looks even better than the Q5 SUV. Little chance of seeing this model in Singapore, given the success of the Q5.

This Week's Auto Feature

Rivals of the Audi Q7

Volvo XC90
It created a storm back in 2003, as it was the only 7-seater luxury SUV on the market. 2012 replacement seems to be too far away as the current car looks way past it’s sell by date.

BMW X5
If you want a BMW that seats 7, this will be the only one. However, rear most seats are strictly for amputees or small children. Easily the best handling SUV on sale.

Mercedes GL-Class
The replacement GL will be given an even more distinctive design to distance itself from the ML-class on which it is based on. The 2011 GL will grow in all dimensions for more cabin space.

Land Rover Discovery
The recent facelift saw subtle but extensive tweaks to chassis and styling. New 360-deg cameras provides confidence while dealing with off-roading and chaotic city traffic.

Audi Pikes Peak Quattro Concept car

First public outing at the 2003 North American International Auto Show to showcase Audi’s intention to introduce a full-sized SUV. The Pikes Peak Quattro was named after the famed mountain, Pikes Peak because of its off-road capability. Production version called the Q7 came on to the market four years later with an even more dramatic front grille.
