Vertu Constellation Ayxta

With Motorola out of action, clamshell luxury phone lovers would do good to start saving up for Vertu's first clamshell phone. Prices start from 4,900 euros.

Luxury mobile phone brand Vertu makes handsets that are too expensive for most people. Recently, it announced the Constellation Ayxta, the first model in its portfolio to sport a clamshell design. Let's have a look at what it has to offer.

Materials

Luxury is the name of the game when it comes to this Nokia subsidiary, and it shows in the use of materials. The metal parts are made of stainless steel with the back constructed out of leather. The black model with polished stainless steel even comes with ceramic keys.

Unlike your regular LCD, the external display on the Ayxta is made of sapphire crystal. This material is scratch-resistant and can be found in some tech products such as high-end Motorola phones and Leica cameras.

Services

Like other Vertu phones, this model gets you the company's one-year Concierge service. This lets you call a 24-hour operator who will be able to help you out in matters such booking restaurants, ordering flowers and so on. In essence, the service sorts out things you don't have time for because you are out there making your next million.

A new feature is the City Brief service which informs you of the nearest bars, restaurants and other points of interests when you travel from one city to another. Our colleague Damian Koh described it succinctly as "Lonely Planet for the rich".
